ENCOUNTERS & CONVERSATIONS

Almanaque Fotográfica - CDMX - April-May 2023
TYLER GOLDFLOWER, photographer, US & SOL BAILEY BARKER, sculpture. UK
Our artistic practice builds a bridge between the intimate and the universal to honor the duality and impermanence of our experience as humans. For this exhibition we present three bodies of work: Conversations with rocks is our collaborative dialogue. Made in analogue format with 35mm film and printed in silver on gelatin, these images were captured in remote places where we perform gestural rituals.
Everything is impermanent, even that which has all the characteristics of substance -what is hard, inert, solid or present- nothing is more than the illusion of permanence.
Sol's sculptures are inspired by the stories that shape and connect us. The archetypes that nurture our collective unconscious are a testament to our shared humanity, as a universal language to transcend the boundaries of culture, language, and time.
Encounters with the Unknown is a series of underwater photographs by Tyler that propose a timeless dialogue between the feminine and the ocean. Literally and metaphorically, both concepts constitute the womb of the world; a threshold to the unknown that represents the ethereal and intangible plane of the unconscious.
In the words of Ursula K Leguin: Each human being is unique, unprecedented, unrepeatable. But the notion of 'shared humanity' acknowledges the fact that we are all in this together, held together by common threads of experience and emotion .
